February 17, 2019
BLYTHE, Calif – On Tuesday, February 12, Blythe Station agents working at the Highway 78 Immigration Checkpoint arrested two United States citizens for the transportation of 17 pounds of suspected fentanyl.
Agents removed fentanyl from a floor compartment
At approximately 5:30 p.m., a Border Patrol canine assigned to the primary inspection lane alerted to an odor it was trained to detect emitting from a silver 2013 Dodge Journey. Agents referred the vehicle to the secondary inspection area and discovered seven packages of suspected fentanyl in the rear floor factory compartment. The suspected fentanyl had an approximate weight of 17.48 pounds.
The driver, a 29-year-old United States citizen from Tolleson, Arizona, has a previous conviction for the transportation of 22 pounds of cocaine. The female passenger was a 32-year-old United States citizen. The driver will be charged with the transportation of a controlled substance.
An individual is presumed innocent unless and until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Federal law allows agents to charge individuals by complaint, a method that allows the filing of charges for criminal activity without inferring guilt.
