Man arrested for discharging a gun after threatening to kill himself

TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif – On Wednesday, February 6 at approximately 11:03 p.m., the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s dispatch received a call from a man, later identified as Cody Lee (age 29 of Twentynine Palms), who stated he was armed with a gun and intended to kill himself at a residence in the 6600 block of Cholla Avenue, Twentynine Palms.
Deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s station and Officers from the Morongo Basin CHP office responded to the home and learned there were four children inside of the residence. Lee exited his home with his loaded gun and fired three rounds into the air in the residential area.
Lee obeyed all commands to surrender to law enforcement and he was taken into custody. Deputies found that the children were unharmed. Deputies remained in the area and made contact with nearby residents to ensure that no one had received injury from the suspect discharging his weapon into the air. There were no reports of harm to any of the residents.
Lee was arrested for negligent discharge of a firearm and possession of an illegal firearm. He was booked into West Valley Detention Center, where he is being held on $50,000 bail.
