BLYTHE, Calif – Santa Claus arrived in Blythe this morning, not on a sleigh but by a helicopter provided by the REACH Air Ambulance Service. St. Nick’s visitation was arranged by Civil Servants for Santa, organized by Chuckawalla State Prison Community Liaison Kenny Kalian and Capt. Richard Smith.

Civil Servants for Santa, along with many others in the community, donated time and money to create a special day for the 100 children who each received a $100 K-Mart gift card. They were then bussed by the Palo Verde Transit Service from the Joe Wine Recreation Center to K-Mart where they could use their cards to empty the toy shelves.

They had a little extra help from our own Blythe K-Mart as they kicked in an additional $10.00 value to each of the gift cards so that each child had $110 to spend to his/her heart’s content.

A parade of fire, ambulance, law enforcement and border patrol vehicles escorted the kids in three Transit busses for their shopping spree. Upon return, the exhausted kids were treated to a personal visit with Santa as well as refreshments and games at the Recreation Center.
