BLYTHE, Calif – School is back in session starting August 22. Some important changes have been made to the traffic plan in the area of Ruth Brown Elementary School due to numerous complaints. The City of Blythe, the Police Department and the Palo Verde Unified School District came together to enhance the safety of students and ease traffic congestion in the area.

The School bus drop off is now located on East Barnard between North Fifth and North Seventh Street. Children will no longer be allowed to be dropped off or picked up in private vehicles on Barnard Street. The new drop off and pick-up locations for private vehicles will be in front of the school in the parking lot on North Seventh Street or on North Fifth Street. Children walking or riding their bicycles to school may continue to use the gate on Barnard Street. Vehicles found parked on Barnard Street in the school bus zone are subject to a citation for illegal parking.

In addition, a turning restriction will be in place for vehicles leaving the school parking lot on Seventh Street. Vehicles exiting the south driveway in front of the school office are only allowed to make a right turn. Vehicles making a left turn onto North Seventh Street are subject to a citation for illegal turning.

Please help me make your children’s route to school safe. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Blythe Police Department at 760-922-6111.
