BLYTHE, Calif On Thursday, January 5 at six in the evening, Blythe Police were dispatched to Defrain Blvd. just south of Sixth Ave. regarding a vehicle rollover with one person severely injured.

On arrival officers found a white 2008 Toyota on its top with major damage. Next to the vehicle were two young females who were receiving first aid from a Blythe Ambulance employee whose vehicle was behind the Toyota when the accident took place. Blythe Police Officers assisted with rendering first aid and traffic control. Blythe Fire Department arrived and also assisted with first aid. Once the females were stabilized they were removed from the scene.

The driver was identified as 18 year old Kelly Chute of Blythe. Her passenger was her 16 year old sister. Kelly was transported to Palo Verde Hospital by Blythe Ambulance and her 16 year old sister was flown to Desert Regional Hospital in Palm Springs. Kelly was treated at the hospital and later released. The 16 year old girl remains in the hospital due to her injuries.

Police learned that Kelly was traveling southbound on Defrain just south of Sixth Ave. when she lost control of her car. The car left the roadway and struck a power pole shearing off the bottom portion of the pole. The car then rolled several times and came to a stop on its top in an alfalfa field. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Southern California Edison employees responded due to the power pole being damaged.

Our citizens who called in the accident and the emergency responders showed professionalism and great concern for human life, said Chief Steve Smith. We thank you all for that.
