Purse Snatcher on Bike

May 15, 2012

BLYTHE, Calif – On Sunday May 13 at about 11:30 at night, the Blythe Police responded to the area of the 100 block of west Hobsonway, in regarding a robbery. When police arrived they found the woman who had reported her purse had been snatched by a man on a bicycle after she left her car to cross the street.

The man on the bike had ridden towards her east bound on the sidewalk. As he passed her, he grabbed her bag from her shoulder, and continued riding east. He was last seen riding east in the 100 block of east Hobsonway.

The suspected robber was described as a Hispanic male in his late twenties, with very short cut hair. He was wearing a white “tank top” type shirt and tan colored shorts. He was riding an unknown colored bicycle, described as a “BMX” style.

The force of the suspect pulling the bag away from the victim caused the victim to lose her footing, but she was able to maintain her balance. She was not injured in the incident. Due to the force used the case is being investigated as a robbery.

This should be a reminder to us all said Chief Steve Smith, “Be aware of your surroundings, pay attention to who is around you, and if you feel uncomfortable, there probably is a reason. I am thankful the victim in this case was not injured very badly, but the tragedy of this event will take a long time to heal Smith said.”

Anyone with information about this or any criminal activity is urged to contact the Blythe Police Department at (760) 922-6111. Information can be given anonymously by calling (760) 921-CARE.
