New School Administrators Approved

BLYTHE, Calif – The regular meeting of the School Board* on June 5 saw two administrative positions approved within the personnel report. Blythe Middle School has a new principal from Winters, California, where Mr. Miller has been employed as both the High School and Alternative Education Principal.

Mr. Miller comes to BMS with extensive experience as a site administrator having also been a High School Principal/Athletic Director in Southern Kern USD and, previous to that position, a Middle School Principal in Lompoc USD. He received a degree in Physical Education at Cal State, Northridge and obtained his teaching credential at California Lutheran University. A Master’s degree in Education was obtained from the University of San Francisco and he finally received his Tier II Administrative Credential from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He has 11 years of teaching experience in Biology, Anatomy and Physiology and has also coached Basketball for the same number of years. He has a sum total of 21 years in the administrative arena with 15 of those at the Middle School level. He has had opportunities to bring programs in to improve teaching and learning at the Middle School level and has also implemented programs that have helped raise achievement scores. He states that, “My main goal this coming year is to work with teachers to help improve teaching and learning.” He is the single father of four boys – ages 21, 19, 17 and 15 and looks forward to seeing the youngest on the football field.

Lifelong Blythe resident Brandy Cox was also hired as the full-time Vice-Principal at Palo Verde Valley High School. Brandy has been serving for the past semester as the part-time Dean of Students with new Principal Bonita Bradshaw. Her appointment solidifies her new position as a full-time job. Brandy is married to Tim Cox (Class of 87) and has a daughter, Kennedy (Class of 2015) and Payton (Class of 2018). Mrs. Cox has an extensive resume with PVVHS starting with her graduation here in 1990. She earned a BS in Health Science from CSU, Long Beach in 1995 and later received her MA in Teaching and Instruction in a Global Society from National University in 2011. Her entire teaching career has been encapsulated at PVVHS from 1998 to the present day. She has taught the AVID courses, Leadership, Health, Life Science and Dance. She has been a Chemical Awareness Network group facilitator, a Mock Trial Coach, Dance Team Coach, Class Advisor, Rotary Teacher of the Month, Teacher of the Year nominee, Leo’s club advisor, a WASC coordinator and has also served as Activities Director.
