BLYTHE, Calif At the regular meeting of the School Board* this past Tuesday evening, two students were brought forth for honors as March Elementary and Secondary Students of the Month.

From Ruth Brown Elementary, Principal Lois Shaffer introduced Emmanuel Guillen to the Board. In her presentation, Ms. Shaffer stated:

Board members, Mr. Bilek, I am pleased to present to you Emmanuel Guillen as District Student of the Month for March 2012. Emmanuel is a sixth grade student at Ruth Brown Elementary School and was nominated by the team of sixth grade teachers, Mrs. Sanchez, Mr. Nishimoto, and Ms. Fedenuik, as well as by his fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Pittman. Emmanuel is the son of Maria Mata of Blythe. Emmanuel has one older brother and two older sisters. He also has a six month old nephew named Roberto de Jesus. He enjoys playing soccer with his friends. His favorite subject in school is math because he thinks he is really good at it. Emmanuel is a great student. He comes to school with a positive attitude, always does his work, and is never a behavior problem. Emmanuel is a role model in class.

For these reasons and more, Ruth Brown School is proud to present Emmanuel Guillen as the elementary Student of the Month for March

Representing Twin Palms Continuation High School, Principal Meliton Sanchez introduced Senior Rebecca Ruiz to the Board and audience. In his presentation, Mr. Sanchez noted that:

Rebecca Ruiz is the 18 year old daughter of Ramon Ruiz and student of Twin Palms since 2nd semester of last year. Over the past year, Rebecca exhibited a strong ability to overcome the adversity that crippled her progress in her early high school years. She recently earned a 4.00 GPA report card and had all As with one B this year. This is a drastic improvement. In the coming months, Rebecca will need to work hard to meet her goal of graduation. She is an excellent example for other students on campus in the areas of attendance, conduct, and academic performance. She is also a helpful resource to her all of her teachers. For these reasons and many more, Twin Palms High School proudly presents Rebecca Ruiz as our student of the month.

The staff of The Desert Independent would like to add their congratulations to these notable students and their accomplishments.
