Father Takes Children in Violation of Court Order

May 18, 2012

BLYTHE, Calif – On Tuesday May 15 at about 2:00 in the afternoon Blythe Police responded to a residence in the 1300 block of San Gorgonio regarding the possible abduction a child.

An officer contacted the mother of two minor children, ages 3 and 1. She reported that her former boyfriend, the children’s father had picked them up from daycare in violation of a court order. She had contacted him by phone, but he refused to return the children.

The boyfriend was identified as Vadon Phillips, 22, of Blythe. During the investigation, Phillips made contact with the mother by phone, and said he was going to return the children to his mother, and she would bring them back. Phillips did return the 1 year old child but refused to release the 3 year old.

As the investigation continued, officers developed information which led them to a residence in the 200 block of W. Rice St. Phillips was outside the residence with the three year old child, and saw the officers. Phillips attempted to run from the officers while still carrying the child. Phillips was stopped, and released the child unharmed.

Phillips was arrested and booked at the Blythe jail for Violation of a Domestic Violence Court Order and Violation of a Custody Order. Both children were returned to the mother.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
