Fatal Tractor-Trailer Accident

March 31, 2012

BLYTHE, Calif On March 29 a little after two in the morning, deputies from the Colorado River Station, Cal-Fire and AMR responded to a report of an industrial accident at the Con-Way Western Express freight stop on Mesa Drive. Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered an adult male with severe upper torso injuries underneath his tractor-trailer.

The victim, a 59-year-old male from Brownsboro, Texas, was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel. Personnel from the Riverside County Sheriff's-Coroner Office and Cal-OSHA responded and participated in the investigation.

The investigation determined the victim failed to activate the tractor-trailer's braking system while it was parked on a slight downslope in the parking lot area. The vehicle subsequently rolled in reverse and onto the victim as he was completing an inspection on it prior to departure. The victim's identity is being withheld pending a notification of next of kin.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call Investigator Albert Loureiro at the Colorado River Station at (760) 921-7900.
