Dustin Lawson Attacks Man with a Bat, Jailed

BLYTHE, Calif – Early this morning at about 2:46, Blythe Police responded to a residence in the 1300 block of Riviera Drive, in regarding a man who had been struck with a baseball bat.

The responding officer found that the victim, a 58 year old male, and been struck multiple times in the head with a baseball bat. The suspect, identified as Dustin Lawson, 28, of Blythe, had fled the area.

Officers learned that earlier in the evening, Lawson’s girlfriend had ridden an ATV to the victim’s residence to visit with the victim’s wife. When she was ready to return to her residence, Lawson’s girlfriend asked the victim to follow her home. When the victim pulled up to the residence, Lawson approached the vehicle, and shattered the windshield with a bat. The victim exited his vehicle, and was struck several times in the head with the bat. The suspect and victim then physically fought, before the suspect fled in his own vehicle.

The victim was transported to Palo Verde Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Officers followed information which led them to a residence in the 11000 block of 28th Avenue. Lawson was located at the residence, and taken into custody without incident. Lawson was booked into the Blythe jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
