Dead Man Found Off Levy S. of 6th Ave

August 26, 2012

BLYTHE, Calif – On Sunday August 26 at about 3:30 in the morning Blythe Police responded to a reported “man down” call in the agricultural area west of the levy road and south of Sixth Avenue. A farmer had called the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department to report a male lying on a dirt road adjacent to a farm field, that the man was not responsive and possibly dead.

In addition to the Sheriff’s Department units, units from River Medical, Cal-Fire, and Blythe City Fire Department also responded. Upon arrival officers found the body of a dead male lying on the dirt roadway with several injuries. Based on the physical evidence at the scene, the death is believed to be a homicide.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending positive identification by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office and notification of the victim’s family. Further details regarding evidence or cause of death are being withheld at this time for investigative purposes.

Police did note that there had been some type of outdoor gathering in the area known as “the rock pile” along the levy road. While this is a distance from where the victim was located, it is possible that someone at the gathering may have information regarding the incident.

Update:

The victim has been identified as 25 year old Simon Prieto, of Blythe. Police officials also report that after a forensic examination, it appears that at least a portion of the injuries sustained by Prieto were the result of a vehicular collision. Police are seeking any information regarding a vehicle leaving the area during the early morning hours.

Anyone with information regarding this case, or any other crime, is urged to contact the Blythe Police Department at 922-6111 or they can give their information anonymously by calling Crime Stop at 921-CARE (2273) or by E-Mail.
