BLYTHE, Calif – The last City Council meeting changed the Chief’s mind. The support was unquestionable with the noted descent of Councilman Mike Evans. In an emailed letter to media outlets Smith said he “would like to rescind my resignation submitted to you on 10/16/2012.”

He went on to say in the letter that “Promises made by council that they will stop Councilman Mike Evans from slandering me and creating problems, plus the support I received are the reasons I am rescinding my resignation.”

Smith indicated in his letter verbatim what he had read out to the council as follows: “Below is a summary of what I read to council on the night of 10/23/2012.

I would like to clarify my recent letter of early retirement to the council and public. The letter was directed primarily at Councilman Evans. I have spoken with members of council and have been assured they are taking action to address the concerns raised in my letter; therefore I would like to publicly thank the other four council members for stepping up and taking action. I would like to retract my comments against the other council members.

I have the utmost respect for the remaining four councilmen for the action they have taken tonight. I retract my comments made in the letter of 10/16/2012.”

Editorial Note: This is indeed great news for the City of Blythe. Robert Winkler, Publisher
