Car Attack on Vista Sunrise Lane

BLYTHE, Calif Ė On Sunday May 27 at about 2:30 in the morning Blythe Police responded to a residence in the 600 block of Vista Sunrise Lane, regarding an assault with a deadly weapon, a car.

The responding officer found that a group of people had been drinking there. When one of the men, Erick Cabanillas, age 25, of Blythe, had a disagreement with another person at the residence. Cabanillas left the location in his lifted Jeep, screeching the tires as he left and drove to the end of the block.

One person followed Cabanillas and walked up the vehicle where it was stopped. When Cabanillas didnít roll down the passenger window to talk to the person, he walked around the front of the vehicle to speak with Cabanillas. Cabanillas accelerated the vehicle, striking the subject, and running over his foot with one of the tires.

Cabanillas returned to the residence, where two people were standing in the driveway. He then turned the vehicle towards them and accelerated in their direction however they were able to jump out of the way. Cabanillas vehicle continued forward, and struck a chain link fence in front of the residence. Several people attempted to stop Cabanillas, and get him out of the vehicle, however he was able to back up, and drive out of the area.

Cabanillas was located a short time later by Blythe Police in the 200 block of Siegfried Lane, and taken into custody for assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Blythe Jail.

The person who was struck by the vehicle was assisted back to the residence by neighbors. He declined further medical treatment at the scene.

The investigation in this case is continuing, including Cabanillas alcohol intoxication at the time.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
