BLYTHE, Calif The parking lot at Palo Verde Valley High School was filled to near capacity on Friday night as six other track and field teams came to town for the preliminary and final events for the CIF season.

Teams from Brawley, Calexico, Central, Holtville, Imperial and Southwest were hosted by the Palo Verde team with the first races beginning at 6:30. A number of events such as team relays, the mile run, hurdles, discus, shot put and the high jump made for entertaining viewing. Robert Figueroa sang the national anthem and the JROTC trooped in the colors.

The program stated that the top two athletes and relay teams will advance automatically to CIF. All athletes meeting the CIF standard will advance to the CIF preliminaries on Saturday, May 19 at Mt. Carmel High School. Those qualifying for CIF finals will then meet again at Mt. Carmel on May 25.
