Attempt to Steal Yamaha Jet Ski

May 25, 2012

BLYTHE, Calif – On Monday May 21 at about 10:22 in the evening, Blythe Police responded to a business in the 100 block of N. Broadway, regarding an attempted theft a Yamaha Jet Ski valued at $3,000 dollars.

The responding officer contacted the owner of another area business, who had been pulling into the alleyway at the time of the theft. The witness had seen two people removing a Yamaha Jet Ski from a fenced area at the rear of the victims business. When the suspects saw the witness approaching, they ran to a vehicle parked in the parking area behind Rabobank, and fled at high speed with the vehicles lights turned off. The witness was able to keep sight of the suspect vehicle, and followed it to a residence in the 300 block of north Broadway. The suspects then fled on foot.

Officers contacted the owner of the suspect vehicle, and learned that the vehicle had been taken, without permission, by a relative of the vehicles’ owner. The two subjects were contacted and taken into custody for Grand Theft. Both male suspects were minors, ages 15 and 16, both of Blythe.

The suspects admitted to removing the Yamaha Jet Ski from a trailer in the fenced area at the rear of the victims business, and carrying it out through a hole cut in the fence. The suspects also admitted to casing the area to determine when and how to commit the theft.

“I want to personally thank the good citizen that called this in, stopping the crime, getting a great description that allowed us to apprehend the suspects” said Chief Smith. “And with summer coming more water craft will be coming out of storage please make sure to lock your equipment.”

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
