Assault at Rabobank ATM

September 13, 2012

BLYTHE, Calif – On Saturday September 9, at about 8:00 in the evening, Blythe Police responded to a report of a robbery at an ATM at the Rabobank on Hobsonway. The victim, a 49 year old woman, reported that she was conducting her transaction, when a subject approached her from behind, and pushed her down.

The victim struck a nearby cement trashcan as she fell. When she turned around, she saw a male, wearing a large black “hoodie” and a black “ski mask.” She said the subject was holding what appeared to be a black pistol, with something orange on it. The male fled east then turned south down First Street.

The suspect did not take any property from the victim.

The victim suffered pain to her shoulder and swelling to her head. She was taken to Palo Verde Hospital for treatment.

Witnesses who had seen the incident reported that a black male had run from the area of the VFW hall across the street to where the victim was conducting her transaction at the ATM. The witnesses reported the male subject produced what appeared to be a gun, and struck the female. They said the victim fell to the ground, and the suspect fled southbound toward the 100 block of South First Street. Since the suspect appeared to be armed, the witnesses did not follow the suspect.

Witnesses further described the suspect as a being a black male, about 5’8” tall, with a “skinny” build. He was wearing a red baseball cap, a white tee-shirt, and a dark shirt.

Officers contacted several subjects in the area, but the suspect was not located. While checking the area where the suspect fled, officers located a black plastic air-soft pistol with orange parts on it in a trash dumpster in the 100 block of East Hobsonway.
