Arrest Made in Levy Death

August 29, 2012

BLYTHE, Calif On Sunday August 26 detectives from the Blythe Police began a homicide investigation into the death of a man found in the agricultural area west of the levy south of 6th Ave.

The victim, now identified as 25 year old Simon Prieto, had what police described as substantial trauma to his head and body. Due to the injuries, the exact cause of death could not be immediately determined.

On August 27 an autopsy was conducted. The finding of the examination, along with evidence located at the scene, was reviewed. There was substantial evidence that showed Prieto was struck by a vehicle in the area he was found.

On August 28, at about 7:55 in the evening, Blythe Police detectives arrested Jack Richard Kennedy, 19, of Blythe. A vehicle operated by Kennedy was also seized as evidence. Kennedy was booked into the Blythe jail on charges of Vehicular Manslaughter and Felony Hit and Run.

The investigation in this case is continuing.

Persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
