BLYTHE, Calif – Appleby Elementary School’s oldest computers, many of them second hand, are being replaced by new PCs thanks to a $10,000 donation from NextEra Energy Resources. On December 14, twenty new computers were installed in over a dozen classrooms, replacing some of the oldest computers in the district. Students and teachers will now be able to access information more quickly and run more powerful programs in the classroom, improving learning opportunities.

“Our dream is to provide our students with access to cutting edge learning technology,” said Jeremy James, Appleby Elementary principal. “In an era of cuts, we feel extremely fortunate to have a partner like NextEra that can make this dream a reality.” James asked all 567 students at Appleby Elementary to write thank you cards to NextEra and invited them to come to an assembly to receive the cards in person to meet students and teachers, and to witness the benefits the new computer systems are already providing to Appleby students.

NextEra Energy Resources director of communications has said that his company “believes in the Blythe community and wants to be part of its success…[we are]doing our part to give local students the technology tools they need is just one way we demonstrate that long term commitment.”

“Having a new computer in our class is great,” said fourth grader Gavin Loureiro. “It runs so much faster that we get to try new things and spend more time doing what we need – like looking up ideas for science fair projects. I even wrote that in my thank you card.”
